Artificial Intelligence has become one of the biggest tools used in creative fields today but
instead of assisting it has now taken over. From A.I. music to actual A.I. artists, it seems that this
form of technology has created a space of its own space. This has become an issue for music
artists who’ve worked tirelessly to secure their spot in the industry. The amount of
success that A.I. have gained over night makes artists question the reasoning behind their hard
work.

Music is supposed to come from a place of experience, cultural storytelling and emotion —none
of which A.I. has. Part of the reason music has become one of the top sources of creativity is
because people are able to connect with the artist. Seeing A.I. artists like Xania Monet receive a
spot on Billboards for a song that speaks on the negative effects of not having a present father
has people feeling like the song is kind of a mockery of real life issues. Ta Ta Takumi, another
A.I. artist, was just signed by one of the top producers in the music industry, Timberland.

Witnessing the rise of A.I. artists can discourage new artists or hold them back from certain
opportunities. In an industry that is already crowded, A.I. music has now pushed the chances of
new artists receiving their shot at their dream career. This is also an issue because these ideas,
songs, and even voices are based on previous music made by real artists so now it can come
across as robbery of someone else’s talent.

A.I. negatively impacts music in a plethora of ways. A.I. can generate instrumentals, vocals, and even full songs at extremely low cost. This reduces demand for session musicians, vocalist, and voice actors. It has the ability to create music more quickly, which also negatively impacts music. In negative impacts such as low
quality music, repetitive music loops, and spamming streaming algorithms. A.I. can also
manipulate artists or lyrics to appear differently from what they actually are. Another issue are
copyright and ownership, which can pose a problem for artists, this can be pretty
frustrating for artists because of how accurate A.I. can mimic certain artists in several cases.
Overall A.I. could serve as a negative impacts on music and possibly be very harmful to artists and musicians.

A.I. has shown itself to be more harmful than helpful when it comes to music. Music is very powerful in today’s
society and is also very influential, and the threat that A.I. has on the culture is unacceptable. It
should not impact music or its culture in that way.
