Is baseball a forgotten sport at Lincoln?

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA — According to recent stats, baseball, known as America’s pastime, is losing its overall public recognition.

At Lincoln University, it has gotten to a point of an all-time low. Lincoln University baseball players Jaden Greenidge, Chris Howard, and Izaah Perocier, all believe it with how they are recognized for their school achievements.

Greenidge stated he was awarded throughout his college career “as an upperclassmen MVP, underclassmen newcomer of the year.”  He added, “it’s disrespectful especially with the success that we have had the past few years and having every other sport and even orgs recognized and not us. It just doesn’t feel right.”

The future of baseball recognition lies in its ability to adapt and grow. As more players from diverse backgrounds go to college and expand their talents and fans become more engaged through technology and media, the ways in which we honor the sport should continue to evolve. Recognition should not be confined to stats and trophies, but embraced by personal stories around the campus, communities, and the culture of the sport.

“If you go out there and play how you play and do better than others you’ll gain personal recognition but as a team we all would have to work with one mindset to reach the growth we want,” Howard said.

But the baseball program feels they haven’t been acknowledged enough as one of Lincoln’s top sports.

“Because the school doesn’t show the program as much love as others,” Perocier, a transfer, said. “It’ll affect how we recognize individual players for their success.”

Ultimately, baseball recognition is about more than celebrating greatness on the field. It’s about preserving the legacy of a sport that has defined generations and continues to inspire millions.
