Today was poised to be a monumental day for the Lincoln community. Not only was it homecoming, but it also marked a special occasion as the Lions planned to rename the track and football field in honor of two esteemed figures: Dr. Frank “Tick” Coleman and Coach Cyrus Jones. This tribute would take place during halftime, making it a historic moment for the school and its proud traditions. The event brought together students, alumni, and community members to celebrate the legacy of these remarkable individuals and their contributions to Lincoln.

Last year, the Lions made the trip to Bluefield, where they pulled off an impressive victory on the homecoming game, effectively ruining the Bluefield team’s celebrations. Given that backdrop, there was a justified sense of anticipation leading up to today’s matchup. Everyone knew that the Bluefield players would come out with a fierce determination, eager to reclaim their pride and spoil our homecoming festivities in the same way we had disrupted theirs a year ago. The stakes were high, and both teams were ready for an intense showdown filled with rivalry and excitement.

After a week of practice dedicated to honing in on the finer details, such as minimizing turnovers and avoiding mistakes, the Lions faced a challenging game. Despite losing the turnover battle, they impressively finished with more total yards and first downs than their opponents. This strong performance allowed them to secure a decisive 37-13 victory, dominating from start to finish. The team’s focus on execution paid off, showcasing their resilience and skill throughout the matchup.

Lincoln senior wide receiver Dah’mear Triplett almost made an early impact by scoring a touchdown, but the referee ruled it out due to his foot being out of bounds. Later in the game, he redeemed himself by catching a 24-yard touchdown pass, ensuring his feet were well in bounds this time. This touchdown was not only significant for the team’s momentum but also for Dah’mear personally, as it marked a new record for the most touchdowns scored at Lincoln University. His achievement added an exciting highlight to an already impressive game. After the game I got to catch up with the brand new all-time leading touchdown scorer for Lincoln University and ask him a couple questions about his new record. He spoke about having to overcome adversity during the week as the team was struggling but also during the game after feeling like he let his team down by not getting his feet in bounds he kept pushing till finally he got his legendary touchdown. This was a big game for Lincoln for more than one reason and it seems that everyone on the team was aware and ready for the challenge. Lincoln had a lot riding on this game and found a way to come through under pressure. This win could really boost the team’s momentum and morale as they head into the final stretch of the season.
