Homecoming Season is one the biggest campus wide events that every student can not wait for! A week long of events catered to the students which involves a mental health day, concert, food trucks and nights of partying. On October 10, the main event was the concert in which Rob49 performed in the International Culture Center at 10pm.
As students arrived to the designated building waiting for Rob49, to keep the vibes going they invited students on stage for a twerk contest in which Jayla Etheridge won and was given a cash prize. The next challenge was the viral Tik Tok dance, “Trip Out” which originated in New Orleans. As the audience voted on who had the best “Trip Out” majority ruled out for Jordan McCallum to be the most “trippiest”.
Once Rob49 came out on stage the audience screamed in excitement! Rob49 has multiple hit songs in which he performed the most popular ones like “Wassam Baby”, “On Dat Money” and more. A few of the students created shirts and posters to show their love and personal connection to him. Rob49 was able to point them out to tell them how much he appreciated what they did for him. He then followed with inviting them and others on stage to take photos. I spoke to one of the attendees who created a poster, how did she feel about being acknowledged by Rob49 she replied “I was ecstatic when he spottedme, I was trying to get on stage as fast as possible because he pointed me out!”. She explained how she listened to him since 2022 and how his song “No Kizzy” made her want to know more about him. One could possibly say that Rob49 officially made Akeeylah Taylor-Dorsey a Lincoln freshman college experience a rating of an 8.5 for the night.
After his set I conducted private interview with Rob49, I asked him a few questions about himself and his thoughts about Lincoln. When asking him if he could rate how “turnt” up the crowd had him on a scale of 1-10 at Lincoln he responded, “A 10 for sure”. He also stated that he wanted to vibe with the students for the after party, but he had another booking in NYC and he would’ve loved to stay with us. Another question asked was what would be a tip to students who are continuing their studies at HBCU’s? Rob49 encourages students “to keep going and do things for yourself, being as though he wasn’t able to get the chance to see through his college experience.” After a few laughs we came to the conclusion that class of 2025 will be graduating in his honor.
