Recharging After Midterms: A Lincoln Lion’s Guide to Managing Stress and Practicing Self-Care

By Janaya Yusko Class of 2029, Lincoln University Student Contributor

Midterms are finally over and if you’re anything like most of us Lions, you’re probably feeling a mix of relief,
exhaustion, and maybe even a little anxiety about what comes next. Between long nights in the library, early
morning classes, and juggling everything else in life, midterm season can take a serious toll. Now that the
storm has passed, it’s time to focus on what comes next: recovery. Managing academic stress after midterms
isn’t just about catching up on sleep. It’s about finding ways to reset, recharge, and refocus so you can finish
the semester strong.
Take a minute to look back at how midterms went, both the good and the not-so-good. Use what you learned to
plan better for finals, but don’t beat yourself up. Progress matters more than perfection. Reflecting on what
worked and what didn’t helps you grow, and it’s the first step in regaining your motivation.
As you look ahead to the rest of the semester, try to set small, realistic goals for yourself. Completing one task
at a time can build momentum and confidence, and before you know it, you’ll be right back on track.
Finally, lean on your Lincoln community. Talk to your friends, reach out to professors, and simply reconnect
with family. The Counseling Services and Wellness Center on campus are also great resources if you need
someone to talk to or tools to manage stress. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness, and taking time
for your mental health is one of the smartest things you can do as a student. Sometimes just knowing you’re
not the only one feeling stressed can make a big difference. Through it all, remember to give yourself grace.
You’ve made it through one of the toughest parts of the semester, and that’s something to be proud of.
So, Lions, take a breath, take a break, and take care of yourselves. Midterms may be tough, but you’re tougher.
The semester’s not over yet but you’ve got everything it takes to finish strong.
