Men Shine, Women Struggle in Last Week’s Basketball Games

By Nigel Broadnax This past week was a good one for the Lincoln University men’s basketball team. It was not so great for the women’s team. The men defeated Elizabeth City State University 64-58, earning a victory in their final home game of the seasons. Trailing 27-10 with 8:06 left in the opening period, the team began a 17-4 run which cut the lead to four. Following a three-pointer by senior guard George Jackson to end the run with 34 seconds left, ECSU made a basket at the buzzer to make it a six-point game at the half. The Lions scored seven unanswered points within the first three minutes of the half to take their first lead of the game. Basketball Roundup: Men’s Team Dominates, Lady Lion Passes 1,000

By Nigel Broadnax   This past week in Lincoln sports featured two home wins for the men’s basketball team. The first came on Wednesday, January 29th against Chowan University where they won 69-47. The Lions, who earned a 69-47 victory, held control for most of the first half, leading by as many as nine in the period The team  really sealed the win after halftime. They shot 52 percent in the second half, while holding Chowan to just 26 percent from the field. . The second period also featured Lincoln forcing nine turnovers and producing a 15-point advantage in scoring. For the game, the Lions made 11 three-pointers and generated 30 bench-points. Men prevail, women fall in weekend basketball contests

By Nigel Broadnax Lincoln University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams had mixed results during weekend contests against Virginia Union.  The men prevailed 60-58, while the Lady Lions fell 52-43. The Lincoln University men's basketball team prevailed against Virginia Union University at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium on Saturday. Late free throws by senior Richard Glover lifted Lincoln to the victory. The game was kept pretty close throughout the first half, despite the Lions trailing by as many as six at one point. They trailed 31-29 at halftime. Lincoln jumped out to a 39-31 within the first four minutes of the second half.
