Spring Fling 2013 Week of events

Before finals week attacks, students always have Spring Fling to look forward to. Starting Spring Fling off is the Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Pageant. This year the three young women up for the crown are Monique Barnes, Sharray Grant, and Erin Washington. Up for the title of Mr. Lincoln is Dustin Fowler. The doors open Monday April 1, 2013 at 7:10pm and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday is ‘Bring back Lincoln Lecture Series and the Evolution of Hip-Hop. The forum will have guest speaker Solomon Comissiong, Golden Era Hip Hop inspired activist, Media/Educational Scholar, Public Speaker, Radio Host and Columnist. Comissiong will be touching on the evolution of hip-hop.

Wednesday at 6 p.m., SGA is presenting ‘Wildin’ Out’ LU vs. Bowie State. Bowie will be bringing two busloads of students to cheer on their team. Each school with have a team of 10 competing in a number of funny games just like the MTV classic ‘Wildin’ Out’. After, SGA is throwing a ‘Dolla Holla Pool Party’ in the Manual Rivero Gym Pool from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. with admission of only $1.

The following day, modeling troupe We R 1 family will be hosting a fashion show. The show will be held in the big gym. We r 1 members are selling tickets for $7 in advance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets at the door and for off-campus individuals are $10

Friday, students will be welcomed in the Student Union MPR for laser tag. The activity is free and will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Also, there will be an outdoor concert featuring the student organization ‘Music in Us’ also known as MIU. That night the first party of Spring Fling takes place. Being held in the main gym, the party is also open to off campus students. Students with Lincoln IDs will be charged $5. All others will be charged $10. The party starts at 10 p.m. and ends  at 2 p.m.

Also on Friday, the International Student Association, ISA, will be hosting a fashion show in the SUB Multi-Purpose room. The show starts at 7pm with tickets only $3.

Saturday wraps up the week long of fun with a day full of events for students to take part in. The day kicks off with a Sneaker Show and Vendor’s Day in the Student Union Atrium. Hosted by the Baltimore Sneaker Show, there will be a competition of who has the best and rarest shoe; winner will receive a cash prize. Students will also have the chance to buy, sell, and trade sneakers.

Starting at 3 p.m., the freshman and upperclassmen will go head to head in a game of flag football. The game will be played on the field in front of Frederick Douglas Dormitory.

“This year’s Spring Fling displays a great variety of events,” said SGA President DeWayne Walker Jr.

Spring Fling’s main event is Saturday night: The Spring Fling Concert and after party featuring French Montana. LU students will be able to purchase tickets prior to the day of the concert for $25 at ticket booths in the Student Union Building. The day of the concert, LU students will have to pay $30. Off campus students will have to pay $35. The main gym’s doors will open at 10p.m. and the party will go until 2 a.m.

“French Montana is about to turn LU up,” said Walker.
