The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Nu Chapter won first place at The Lincoln University’s 2015 Homecoming Step Show on Oct. 9, defeating four-time consecutive winner Iota Phi Theta.
Nu chapter hasn’t been a part of the university’s homecoming step show since 2011.
“I’m a proud step master! I made a masterpiece of steps and skits, and my brothers made it come to life!” says senior Kemoi Charles, step master of the group. “They call us Kings, we call each other brothers.”
To win the show, Nu Chapter used the theme of Fat Albert. Every Alpha that stepped in the show portrayed a character from the movie. They also used their Miss Black and Gold, Tiara Hodge, and her Royal Court, Genae Butler and D’jenne Harris, to portray the females in the movie through voice-overs.
“I am not Fat Albert! I AM FAT ALPHA!” says senior Derrick Taylor. “ We won first place in the step show, at the first HBCU! This feeling is amazing! This is truly where being the first matters.”
The chapter held an Alpha week called “A NU WORLD”, with programs, including “Icy Road To Success 2” and “Black Is The Nu Black”. They discussed their personal ideas of ways to success, and also featured a talent show.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has high hopes of continuing this winning streak according to its members still on campus: Jared Johnson, Jamar Earnest, Darien Veal, Miles Green, Kemoi Charles, Derrick Taylor, Christian Alexander, Taylor Garnett, and Khairi Scott.
