Lincoln University– Carols Daughter Healthy Hair Tour held a forum in Grim Hall auditorium April 8, 2013 at 6 p.m. to speak to students who want to transition and who are already natural.

The forum was hosted by Myleik Teele, founder and president of natural hair care company CurlBox. Also included on the panel and tour was a representative from Delaware Naturalistas, blogger Jess from Hair gets, blogger Shanti from around the way, and popular YouTube vlogger Ms. Vaughn.

The panel discussed patience, how to maintain, professional environments and styles.

Alanna Freeman, student, asked what advice did they have for people who want to main natural hair  in college. Many of the panelists answered that when you are natural, there are many ways to do it yourself, and you can watch youtube videos or even ask others on campus.

Has going natural become a trend?

Shanti, one of the panelists from Around The Way said going natural is blowing up and she thinks excitement will pass.

“I think it is more trending than anything,” Shanti said.

The topic of discussion shifted to wearing natural hair in a corporate environment.

The panelists all agreed that the companies are looking for women who can do the bottom line.

The panel even gave specific tips on how to take care of their natural hair.

“Ladies, to properly moisturize your hair, you wet your hair enough to dampen, use a product (a leave in conditioner preferably), and seal with an oil, butter or Aloe Vera juice,” Myleik Tylee said.

Some styles mentioned were the pineapple, bantu knots and twist outs.

At the end, students got a chance to speak with the panelist and take pictures with the host.

The first 25 ladies who come to student life and development will get to receive a transitioning kit Wednesday.  First come, first serve basis.
