Applications are in for the next batch of Student Government Association leaders.

The Student Government Association held an interest meeting February 12th in room 401 of the Langston Hughes library at 7 p.m.

Applicants interested in obtaining a position in the association had the chance to express their curiosity about the group and then applications were distributed.

Students submitted their applications on February 19 at 5 p.m. in sealed envelopes to the Student Government Association office and at this time have not heard any word back about if they were qualified for a position.

Brandon Harris, president pro tempore of SGA, said he could not provide other names of individuals planning to run for office.

“The elections committee does not meet until February 21 to review the applications to run. We can’t release that information until they are selected and candidates notified,” Harris said.

One person who is running is Lowell Howard.

Howard, a junior and mass communications major, said he is running for Vice President of External Affairs.

“ I feel that position fits me because I am here for the students and I have a history of working with public relations and advertising, which could benefit SGA,” Howard said

During the February 7 senate meeting an elections committee was formed from the student senators and faculty. The committee is used to determine the rules for the campaign as well as review the applications for qualified students who can run in the Student Government Association elections.

Currently the positions that are available are president, vice president of internal affairs, vice president of external affairs, treasurer, and secretary.
