It is homecoming season for many colleges and universities. As a result, of that most weeks start off with a wondrous event called coronation. Coronation is the crowning ceremony of the campus’ King and Queen. Every coronation is different. Some people fly from the ceiling, while others come in on white horses and the rest just get a sparkling, gem encrusted crown.
With having the pleasure to serve as Mister Lincoln University for Lincoln University of PA, I have gotten to go to many coronations, and even had one of my own. My coronation was spectacular! We had performers dance, sing and even sign on the stage. Every campus organization had their king and queen grace the stage. Our family and friends came from Georgia, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, just to name a few. At the end we had a banquet with our family and friends. Our theme was Coming To America, the stage was perfectly decorated with zebra and jaguar skins, a wooden zebra, a golden lion and a giant elephant. The night’s festivities were filled with performances, tears of joy and smiles.
My Royal Court and I have also attended the coronations of Howard University, Morgan State University, Coppin State University, Bowie State University and Cheyney University. Each one of their coronations were just as spectacular but all had their own twist to it. Going to other court’s coronations had you like “that was beautiful” or “wow I did not see that coming”. They range from grand to messy, from ugly suits to amazing dresses! We’re right in the middle of coronation season, so my hope is to go to many more.
