Words of Encouragement from a Lincoln Alumn

By Derwayne Henry and LaKenya Burke-Ray

Hello world! My name is DerWayne Henry. I am a recent graduate at The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania where I studied Strategic Communications with a focus in Public Relations in addition to double minor in Visual Arts and English.  I am also recognized as one of Lincoln University’s Dean’s list students, where I maintained over a 3.5 grade point average every semester.

While at Lincoln University I was highly involved where I served as the President for the listed organizations: National Association of Black Journalists, Residence Hall Association, and Lions Media. Shortly after graduation, I relocated to Atlanta, GA. from Bowie, MD. to pursue my future endeavors in higher learning and public relations (PR) networking. Upon my arrival at Atlanta, I landed a associate level position as a Communications Coordinator for one of Georgia’s major non-profit organizations known as T.A.G, Technology Association of GA. At T.A.G. I work closely with P.R. initiatives and communications-oriented tasks such as branding, social media management, and content marketing. Nevertheless, I am currently pursuing my graduate studies at Georgia State University’s Regynald G. Washington Master of Global Hospitality Management (MGHM) cohort program.

After completing my graduate program at Georgia State University, I would like to continue my higher education by attaining an additional masters degree in Marketing in addition to acquiring my certification in Brand and Consumer Management within an European market. Additionally, I became interest in gaining cultural experiences and competencies skills in cultural adaption and global perspectives. As a result, for this semester, I am studying abroad in Cuba in order to conduct research on brand operational practices within the Latin America market. My end goal is to become a Senior Director for Brand Operations & Management for an emerging and creative brand in Eastern Europe. In closing, I would love to mentor and/or connect with potential PR professionals. I am available through LinkedIn for those who are interested.
